Lemnos

A great spot with friendly locals enjoying the day with a constant supply of Greek coffee whilst watching the world go by. The island has a choice of fantastic beaches with the best, in our opinion, being Keros bay itself. This is an amazing 3 mile sandy beach with crystal clear shallow waters based in the national park, so there are no buildings or development permitted and this helps make for the perfect set-up. One of the other many benefits of Lemnos is that its manageable size means it is easily navigable by car or bicycle with furthest point on the island just 25 minutes away from the kite and windsurf centre. There are two local villages to Keros, Kontopouli & Kalliopi just under 3km away both of which you can stock up on essentials for your stay or enjoy the authentic tavernas and incredibly fresh and authentic Greek cuisine.
Back at camp, you will be very comfortable in the luxury safari style tents based within the national park at Keros. The tents are situated very close to Keros beach and run by our partner centre and were so successful that they have added another 8 in 2013. These fantastic tents have all the mod-cons you could wish for as you will see and they have decking with stunning views over the bay – perfect for an après surf beer or pre dinner cocktail!

A great hit last year, the guys in resort have been hard at it over the winter and increased the number of these amazing tents from ten to eighteen. Overlooking the main bay and a short walk from the beach and kite centre these safari style tents have all mod cons to make your stay an extremely comfortable one! Featuring en-suite bathrooms with proper European loos, double or twin beds in the main living area and luxuries such as flat screen TV’s and coffee machine to name a few. There’s also mini fridge’s to keep your refreshments & water cool for when you need them.
Outside you have a veranda with stunning views and ideal for beginning or ending the day.   Also on site is the delightful Mama’s taverna that will cater for your every need and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a traditional menu of homemade goodies, we recommend Mama’s mousakka & the spa tent for a little bit more luxury and pampering off the water!

The Spot & Conditions

This an ideal spot for beginners to make their first few forays into the world of kiting as the water stays shallow for 150m out to sea. Add to this a wide sandy beach, no rocks and a meltemi breeze that comes in reliably and beautiful surroundings then it is without doubt a perfect spot whatever your level.

For freeriders, straight after launching you have the choice of  the glassy flat water at the northern end of the bay or play in the great rolling swells of the southern end of the bay.

For those wanting to progress quickly, lessons are held right in front of the centre in the shallow, warm water – its hard to beat this for the easiest conditions for learning. Kit wise you will find the latest Cabrinha kites and boards and tuition follows the IKO system.

The Centre

The kite centre itself has a very laid back atmosphere, thanks no end to the owners making everyone feel welcome and part of the team whilst delivering high standards of instruction & safety.  Hang out in the shade and recharge your batteries between sessions at the small beach bar just along the shore, perfect!

Keros is fantastic for other activities, whether its for down time between kite sessions or as a family activity. Jump on a standup paddleboard for a pre breakfast session or paddle upto the nearby seal cave in a kayak. Alternatively go snorkelling and look out for dolphins or sea turtles plus its great for fishing in the bay. If you are looking for something slightly slower paced after a day on the water, head to the Spa Tent on site and get a relaxing massage or body scrub. It is also possible to rent a mountain bike and ride along to the salt lakes, during the summer months the one close to Keros turns into a huge expanse of cracked up mud so take your swimmers and get muddy! There are also some small wineries on the island for you to discover which offer some fantastic produce including organic wines. All over the island there are places to visit, whether its the oldest settlement in Europe called Poliochne or the sponge museum in Koutali plus make a visit to Kaviria and Hephestia. There are lots of dirt roads on the island so rent a 4X4 and get off road to discover remote and beautiful beaches, ghost villages etc. Visit the Gomati sand dunes (by the wave spot) and go sandboarding or just simply enjoy the view of the amazing landscape. For a boat trip, head over to Agios Efstratios it’s a tiny island of about 300 residents and fantastic fish tavernas. At the castle of Myrina there is a settlement of about 60 deer. A couple of them were imported 50 years ago and they now dominate the area in the wild.
