Corralejo

Corralejo is a resort located on the northern tip of Fuerteventura about 45mins from the airport. The town itself is once was a small fishing village but in recent years has seen some development and so is now quite a large town. It is approximately 2 miles square and the biggest holiday resort on the island and well known for its expanse of golden beaches.
Theres a great selection of bars and restaurants for all tastes and budgets offering a wide variety of cuisine. You can enjoy a whole range of international food here including Chinese and Indian cuisine or typical Canarian dishes like papas arrugadas - delicious wrinkly potatoes in a mojo sauce. There are also a number of late bars and clubs for those that want to make a night of it!

The main kitesurfing beaches are located a few miles outside of Corralejo, so car hire is normally the favoured option here but it is possible to jump on the bus or hire a bicycle.

The conditions in this resort make it more suitable for intermediate or advanced kitesurfers. The waters are deep with some waves so learning here can be more of a challenge than other places but my colleague took her first kite course here and loved it! Beginner instruction takes place in deep water offshore from centre’s support boat and freeriders just kite straight from the sandy shores in front of the centre. For people who want to learn to windsurf here, there are some lovely lagoons that also offer the perfect conditions or the more experienced can enjoy a little bump and jump action.

The main kite beach in Corralejo is Flag beach which is the most popular spot and where our partner centre is situated. Its only 5km from the town centre and is can be kited at all states of tide although there are some rocks that show at low tide. It has a long, wide beach and the prevailing wind here is normally north-easterly.

El Cotillo, on the other side of the island is best kited at low tide and the wind here is more northerly. This beach is great for a day trip, there isn’t a centre here so best suited to freeriders.

As mentioned, the sea state here in the summer is choppy or with a swell running and during the winter months the low pressure systems can cause big waves but less reliable winds.

The Centre

We are partnered with the long established kite school on the main kiting beach, Flag Beach.  Run by Englishman Ben Thomas and his international team of instructors, they have been here for 20+ years and know the spot and the island like the back of their hands.  The school is situated on the golden sands with a short walk to the launch spot with the added flexibility of boat based tuition depending on the local condiitons.

As mentioned on the kitesurfing page, the are many other fantastic spots on the island so if you have a car you can explore these at your leisure or as conditions dictate.

The best months to head to Fuerteventura is in our summer- anywhere from April through to September. The wind very frequently blows force 4 or above in these months with The air temperature is also nice and consistent in those months, ranging from 24 C to 29 C.

As a well known holiday destination, the island appeals to non kiting guests so is set up with a great choice of other activities. This makes it the ideal place to take children/partners with horse riding, buggie hire, camel rides, biking and sightseeing all great pastimes for all. There are many sights to see in Corralejo, but one of the oldest is a village dating back to the 17th Century. You can also jump on a ferry and be in Lanzarote within 40 minutes and enjoying its own wide selection of bars and restaurants.
